I had always wondered why there wasn't a Penang Fashion Week and then it happened! The first ever Penang Fashion Week with the theme "The Pearl of Fashion" has just been held in Gurney Paragon Mall from April 18-26.
The organiser aimed to shake up the fashion scene in Penang by showcasing both local talents and international designer brands, while attracting tenants and shoppers to the mall. The local designers that were featured to showcase their own innovation and style included Ranndy Goh, Xue Kai, Samantha Chua, Keith Kee and Aden Yong.
This post is about Xue Kai (Lim Syer Khai) whose solo show fell on April 24th (Fri) during the exciting fashion week. Xue Kai is an emerging fashion designer who went to my college so quite a lot of us from the same college showed up to support his first ever post-graduation solo show (hence 001).
Other than a 5-piece collection which Xue Kai did for his college final year, his runway show also unfolded 15 pieces from his latest Spring/Summer 16 collection which is based on graveyard concept. Bold patterns and the colour scheme of black, grey and white are the signature of the SS16 collection.
"The inspiration for the line comes from my ability to see ghosts," Xue Kai explained in an interview. Believe it or not, he wasn't just making stuff up.
Here are some snaps from Xue Kai fashion show that I managed to take from the seating area. Of all the fifteen SS16 looks, which is your favourite?
