Last July we went to an exhibition of a collection of paintings by the late Cambodian artist Svay Ken (1933 - 2008) at Base 2 Gallery, Penang.
The paintings look amazing but you wouldn't have guessed that they were mostly in poor condition (due to bad quality materials and age) before restored by the conservator Rosario.
It was a fancy place and we were served fancy wine and fancy finger food at the fancy balcony of the fancy apartment with a small swimming pool facing Gurney Drive. We had the opportunity to visit Rosario's conservation room and sat down and talked about Svay Ken's life story and the art world as the sun set.
